Project background
Kent Home Cinema were commissioned to work on this project which involved a full interior and exterior design of a detached lodge house. The client’s vision was clear; to create a timeless and elegant aesthetic that seamlessly blends with the demands of modern living and entertaining. The home needed to feel both luxurious and liveable, with a strong focus on atmosphere and usability.
Lighting played a pivotal role in achieving the design vision, both for functionality and for creating an inviting ambience. A lighting scheme was created that worked practically for everyday living, while also highlighting the range of textures, finishes and architectural details within the interior. Since the client also enjoys entertaining outdoors during the summer months, discrete and atmospheric lighting and audio were incorporated into the landscape design to enhance the experience.
Why install a lighting control system
Lighting has a huge impact on how a space is perceived and experienced. A smart lighting control system like Rako enables the client to create and enjoy different lighting moods at the touch of a button. Whether creating a soft, ambient mood for evening relaxation or bright task lighting for daytime functionality, the system offers precision and ease of use.
One of Kent Home Cinema’s favourite elements is how the lighting transforms the mood of the interiors from bright and functional during the day to warm and inviting in the evening. Rako's lighting control system was chosen for its flexibility, scalability, reliability and the company's excellent technical support.
Challenges
A key challenge was integrating technology seamlessly into the luxury design. The lighting control system needed to deliver on performance without compromising the aesthetic of the luxury interior. Careful planning ensured that keypads were subtle, stylish and positioned for ease of use.
As a new build, a Rako wired system was specified for the main house, the separate gym and outdoor areas were fitted with Rako’s wireless system and a hub, ensuring smooth operation across all zones. The entire system comprises over 100 circuits and more than 20 keypads, with Rithumm touchscreens also incorporated in the main living areas to combine the lighting control with heating and audio control. All lighting circuits are dimmable as the client wanted complete control over lighting levels within each scene. Rako’s WM-CUBs were also added to integrate control of the Somfy RTS blinds.
