Catch at the Old Fish Market

Weymouth Harbour

Project Background

Catch at the Old Fish Market is an exclusive restaurant on Weymouth’s quayside. It is owned by Sean Cooper, who undertook major re-building works to restore the market building, creating in the process a fine-dining experience that has received many plaudits from restaurant critics.

Ken Morgan, the Dorset-based architect responsible for the refurbishment introduced the client to John Bullock Lighting Design who undertook the lighting design, working closely with the client and front-of-house team.

An essential feature of the lighting design was that it should function ‘in the background’, requiring nothing more than a single button-press to create pre-programmed lighting scenes, allowing staff to concentrate on the comfort of their diners, rather than thinking about lighting levels!

Rako was selected to provide a wireless control system that minimised the need for hard wiring within the building, thus providing flexibility in determining where the push-button controls, the user interface, should be located once all of the interior finishes and furnishings were in place.

Testimonals

“The pre-set controls follow the restaurant operation throughout the day, from lunch to late-night. The extra raise-lower control facility to make micro-changes in light levels is an added bonus for those times when conditions require it.”  - John Bullock, John Bullock Lighting Design

“Restaurant operators need two things from their lighting; reliability and simplicity. Working with John and Rako Controls was a revelation; I had no idea that we could end up with such a responsive lighting solution!”  - Sean Cooper, Catch at the Old Fish Market.
